About CAART

Aerosol consists of tiny solid and liquid particles suspended in gas. Aerosol is a multiphase system and can be found everywhere in our daily life. These tiny particles have immense impacts to our environment and health, and they also have a wide application to industry manufacturing and medicine. The impacts include the existence of haze that reduces visibility in an urban atmosphere such as Taipei. Small particles can also penetrate deeper into human lung causing a variety of respiratory problems. Industrial applications of aerosol technology include the synthesis of fine grain pigments, high temperature materials, and aerosol spray.

The importance of aerosols to the human health, environment, and the economyi in Taiwan was recognized when Taiwan Environmental Protection Agency adjusted the standard for airbone particulate matter down to ten micrometers several years ago. However, not until about 1990, a small group of Taiwanese researchers started to realize the need for an association that can be devoted to foster the aerosol science and technology research in Taiwan.

The Chinese Association for Aerosol Research in Taiwan (CAART) was thus founded in August 1992. Its mission is to promote research and applications of aerosol science and technology in Taiwan, the Republic of China. CAAR is a fairly new association in Taiwan with currently more than two hundred and sixty individual members enrolled in the association. These members are from academic, industrial, and governmental sectors. There are also members from overseas such as the United States of America, Japan, and Europe.
